Self-Introduction

"Hii! I'm Cathyy! Producer-san, nice to meet you!... or something like that. Nah, if I'm honest I'm perfect at Japanese but I can't speak English! I was born in New York but raised in Asakusa, but I can't tell anyone! Despite that, Producer, I'm counting on you~!"

Character Description

Born in New York City and raised in Japan, Cathy is surprisingly a traditional girl. Cathy grew up in the Tokyo neighborhood of Asakusa, an entertainment district well known for its temples, mainly the Sensō-ji temple, as well as it’s festivals. Cathy isn’t fluent in English, and most of her understanding of America comes from secondhand statements and stereotypes. Cathy’s biggest dream is to become a worldwide idol that can be known in households all across the globe, wishing to show everyone Japan’s refined culture, and wants to improve the friendships between America and Japan. She asks the Producer to keep the fact she grew up in Japan a secret, onstage acting as a hammy idol who loves burgers.

Off-stage, Cathy frequently mentions how she’s a true Tokyoite, and she holds a great amount of pride from growing up in Asakusa. She mentions in stories how due to her looks, when she was younger, she was sometimes made fun of, but Asakusa was always warm and welcoming to her, so she treasures the people and the neighborhood. Cathy explains how she was raised on the kindness of Asakusa, and how one day, when she’s laughing with people all over the world, she can proudly tell them about how she grew up in Japan. She's grown to be quite the celebrity in Asakusa as well. While onstage she flaunts her American side, Cathy doesn’t let either side of her heritage completely define her, and believes that she’s her own unique person.

Cathy loves comedy, and mentions in her commus how she greatly admires and is inspired by rakugo storytellers, and has loved yose and manzai since she was small. She loves to make others laugh and smile, often making puns, acting comedically to help cheer up her backup dancers in her first live gig. This love of comedy leads her to forming a unit named ERICATHY with Erika Akanishi, and the two are frequently seen together. Her family consists of her and her parents, whom are supportive of her idol career, as they told her when she got into high school she should pursue whatever she likes, and her grandfather, whom still lives in America. Cathy has visited him on multiple occasions. She's loved singing since she was little, and has good faith in her dancing skills, as well.

In the tie-in Cinderella Girls Theater skits, Cathy’s extremely energetic side is on display. Despite being born in America, she grew up in Japan and seems to be very a very traditional girl. As Cathy grew up, she used to get free tangerines from a local fruit shop and decided to incorporate them into her image. She considered making an ice skating unit with her friend Saki Yoshioka but realized that they would lose the idol aspect if they continued. Her improvisational skills allow her to be scouted by Erika Akanishi, and the two form a comedy duo to rival Suzuho Ueda and Emi Namba. Her act includes her riding a unicycle. She eagerly introduced Haru Yuuki, Michiru Ohara, and Fumika Sagisawa and she received the “Very Lucky” New Year’s fortune.

Trivia and Fan Culture

Trivia

  • She shares the same birthday with Anastasia.
    • Coincidentally, both are also two of Cinderella Girls' half-Japanese idols.
  • The only English sentence she can speak is "I can't speak English".
  • Her character concept is a reference to the song Ai LIKE Hamburger, from the main iDOLM@STER franchise. She also often quotes the opening line from the song. Hamburgers, of course, are a food she greatly enjoys, as well.
  • The picture she is seen holding in her [Wedding Ceremony] R is of her parents. From this picture, it seems she gets her appearance from her father.
  • She perms her hair, so her hair might not be naturally very curly.
  • Her father wasn't very happy when she got her ears pierced.
  • Cathy's hometown, Asakusa, is actually home to one of the only 4 traditional yose comedy theaters in Tokyo, Asakusa Engei Hall, which is mainly dedicated to the art of rakugo. It can be assumed this is the theater Cathy grew up visiting.
