THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Self-Introduction

"Like, you're serious about me bein' an idol?! But I've got all these piercings and my hair's like this, I thought idols were all about having long black hair and being pure princesses!? No way!!"

Character Description

Ema is a fun-loving young woman with a passionate and energetic attitude. Her trademarks are her loud microphone-breaking voice and her signature sense of style.

In Starlight Stage, the Producer met Ema while she was hanging out with her friends in the park. She teased him, saying he was ditching work. When the Producer gave her a business card, she became excited, realizing she was meeting a real worker in the entertainment industry. After being scouted, she tells the Producer she loves singing, but questions if her piercings and short hair will make her stand out too much as an idol. When the Producer tells her she’s fine as is, she immediately accepts, getting louder and louder as she talks to the Producer until she stops to apologize for yelling.

In her first vocal lesson with the Producer, Ema breaks two microphones in the lesson room before the Producer takes her to a soundproof recording studio that can handle her powerful voice. Excited by the industry setting and the possibility that she could one day record there, Ema promises to give the Producer her max and not hold her voice back. Her first modeling job also has some setbacks; Ema needs direction from the Producer since she isn't familiar with industry vocabulary, but displays a real talent for modeling. Ema's first live also has a troubled start. Before the live, Ema displays a rare moment of nervousness, anxiously running through her lines and steps until the Producer reminds her that it’s also important to have fun. Despite his reminder, she forgets her dance moves and stops midway, prompting the audience to encourage her. Thinking about what Producer would do, she decides to abandon the dancing and make it up with her powerful voice. She successfully charms the audience, encouraging them to cheer even harder for her. After the live, she tells Producer she finally feels like she can be a real idol, and the two of them go to karaoke to sing loudly until dawn.

Compared to other idols with a tomboyish style, Ema is not interested in changing her look to be girlier. When asked to throw a softball for an event, she tells the audience that she once thought it might be better to throw the ball in a cute way, but realized that’s just not how she is—she always needs to use her full energy. When playing football, she also tells the other idols with her that even if tackled, she’ll push through no matter what. Using all her power is the thing most important to her as an idol, whether in sports or on stage. While her debut shows her struggling to remember a dance step, her incredible motivation causes her to develop into a proficient dancer who is excited to share her “dancing high” with her audience.

In the tie in Cinderella Girls Theater skits, Ema is shown to be friends with Rina Fujimoto. When Rina asks Ema to strike a sexy pose, she’s shocked and impressed by Ema’s acting and modeling ability. Rina later says she has the true form of a model, with Yui Ohtsuki also calling her dreamy. Rina is also impressed by Ema’s Kansai dialect, and fears how loud she can go when she goes “full Kansai.” In addition to Rina and Yui, she is shown to get along well with Ryo Matsunaga, Mahiro Kitagawa, Yuu Ohta, Yuzu Kitami, and Shiki Ichinose.

While caring, Ema is shown to be inobservant at times, failing to notice that Rumi Wakui was having trouble breathing during a practice lesson. When Reina Koseki was attempting to disrupt Yoshino Yorita’s waterfall meditation, she at first defended Yoshino but decided to join in splashing water on Yoshino after being fascinated by Yoshino's concentration. She has a teasing side, convincing Yao Fueifuei that the agency’s regular physical examinations were special “idol exams” that test things like gravure photoshoot ability and how far idols can throw goods from the stage. She also teases Honoka Ayase about her love for Pinya, causing Honoka to get a personal best in her softball throw out of frustration. While Ema has a less serious teasing side, her dedication causes her to become frustrated at times with idols she sees as less passionate. While Ema is initially impressed by Hinako Kita's declaration that she’ll make every audience member in their live her fan, she becomes annoyed after learning that Hinako can’t focus on her live without thinking about her future Prince Charming in that audience.

She at times feels nervous that other idols are more suited for her roles. Thinking Miku Maekawa should have been cast as the Cheshire Cat, she resolves to do her absolute best to make up for what she sees as incorrect casting. She was once disappointed that she and Kate can’t match pigtail hairstyles with Mai Fukuyama and Seika Suzumiya.
