Reasons for Becoming an Idol: My second oldest sister sent in an audition application for me all on her own~
Personal Motto: Um... Filial... piety?
Comments for the Future: Well, if I’m going to be an idol, I should obviously try to aim for the top! I know I’ve got it in the bag! ...That is, if I can’t become the top idol, no one else can either!
Comments about Unit Members: Touma-kun and Hokuto-kun are a blast. Touma-kun’s so fun to tease. But, we still respect him! What would I say about Hokuto-kun, though...? Ah! He’s living a life of debauchery...? Right? Ahaha!

THE iDOLM@STER POPLINKS Profile Quote
"Hi~! I'm Shouta Mitarai~! My hobbies are sleeping and filial piety! ...Guess that's it?"
Shouta Mitarai is energetic, cute, and pretty much will give people the ideal thought of a little brother that they've always wanted. But, underneath that innocent face of his is a naughty prankster who knows how to use his cuteness and charm to his advantage. His ability to deal with adults has made him a favorite of the staff and the general public.
His fellow Jupiter member Touma Amagase is a frequent target of Shouta's pranks and teasing due to the former's simple nature. Despite this, Shouta has genuine respect for him as a unitmate and thinks he's fun to work with. He is the dance specialist of his unit, and is particularly skilled in doing backflips. Despite his athleticism, he can't swim, which is the one counterattack Touma has against Shouta's teasing.
Similar to Miki Hoshii, he loves to take naps and can sometimes be seen sleeping in the office. This even extends to occasionally sleeping on the floor, sometimes near-immediately after a live show. He also seems to have quite a large appetite, often asking Touma or Producer to buy him food. In THE IDOLM@STER STATION!!! 第62回 - ジュピター小芝居その3 (翔太編) (Jupiter Small Drama 3 (Shouta chapter)), Takane Shijou, Hibiki Ganaha and Chihaya Kisaragi were tricked into helping him pay for his meal. Shouta ordered a sandwich, mentaiko (pollock roe) spaghetti, black tea, and a large portion of cream anmitsu.
While he doesn't have as much a shift in personality as Touma after the move to 315 Pro, the way he treats his superiors is noticeable between the two; he is rather flippant towards Kuroi, referring to him as "Kuro-chan". In 315 Pro, he addresses the Producer much more respectfully as well as attempting to use his cuteness to spend more time with them. In addition, Shouta's methods of getting what he wants become more playful, such as simply relying on his cuteness rather than fake tears.
Although Shouta is a playful person on the surface, deep down he is incredibly serious about his work. If he feels as though his work isn't of a high standard, he'll push himself as far as possible to make sure he gets it right. In the Dream Time Circus event, he gets frustrated with himself due to not being able to perfect the acrobatic choreography, and starts pushing himself to ensure that he can deliver the best performance possible. In his SideMemories, when he loses a dance battle against someone with the nickname of "The Dance King", Shouta starts fixating on where he went wrong with his dancing, and stays in the lesson room even after his lessons are finished, practicing his dancing over and over again to the point that even his unitmates start getting concerned.
Despite his energetic and happy-go-lucky exterior, Shouta is actually quite a reserved person. Although Shouta loves being the centre of attention, he doesn't have many friends outside of 315 Pro. Shouta dislikes his classmates at school, claiming that they're "annoying" to deal with, and he tends to mostly stick to his unit when it comes to interacting with other idols. However, as time has gone by, Shouta has slowly began opening up to others and making more friends, such as Daigo Kabuto and Takeru Taiga. Shouta also tends to be reserved with his feelings, he often dresses up how he truly feels about things as a joke, and will often try to make people forget anything sentimental he said by disguising it as a prank. In one of his Live On Stage idol commus, he opened up to the Producer about how grateful he is to have Jupiter in his life, only to then claim afterwards that he was just joking around. Shouta states in one desk line that he feels as though the people he can truly be himself with are his family, Touma, Hokuto and the Producer. Shouta's bond with the Producer at 315 Pro is a deep one, he'll often open up to the Producer about things that he feels he can't share with his unitmates, and he states in the Crimson Live event that he'd protect the Producer if they were to be threatened.
Shouta is incredibly close to his family. His family consists of himself, his parents and his three older sisters. His sisters often use him as a dress-up doll, as a result he sometimes comes into work with cute hairpins that he didn't realise were in his hair, and every Halloween he wears a crossdressing outfit to attend Halloween parties with. Shouta's second oldest sister is responsible for him becoming an idol, she sent in Shouta's application to 961 Pro without his permission in hopes of meeting his future unitmate, Hokuto Ijuuin. One SideM 1koma shows that said sister still has feelings for Hokuto; she once gave Shouta a cake to take with him to work, which Shouta initially thought was for himself, only to then open the box and find out that the cake had writing on it addressed to Hokuto. Regardless of these things, Shouta still adores his sisters, and even states in the Moonlit Night Encounter event that he can't even visualise what an argument between siblings would be like, as he's never argued with his sisters even once.

- Although it's not mentioned often, Shouta seems to be a fan of video games. He's shown playing a game with the other idols in episode 8 of the SideM anime, and in Hokuto's reasoner magazine, he introduces Hokuto to a fighting game that Daigo had showed him.
- Shouta enjoys dancing, and often gets into street dance battles in his free time.
