The series takes a different perspective from its original video game series to capture each character's progress to become an idol and friendships beneath vigorous training at a Korean entertainment production company. The cast was chosen through public auditions and voting systems. Those who passed every audition were given roles in the drama.[4]

That group was divided into two teams and 4 subunits for the third round of voting, which was held from May 31st to June 6th.[9] Promotional videos for Kkum-eul Dream and One for All were released during that period, along with two dance covers of READY!!. On June 7th, the third marking period passed and the roster was cut down to 14 girls.[10]

On August 24th, the final roster of 10 girls was announced, forming the unit Real Girls Project.[11] Real Girls Project's MV for Kkum-eul Dream was released on THE iDOLM@STER.KR's Official YouTube channel and an EP Kkum-eul Dream was released on all major Korean music sites and iTunes.
