THE iDOLM@STER Shiny TV (Japanese: アイドルマスター シャイニーTV, Aidorumasutaa Shainii TV) is a video game that was added to the iM@S CHANNEL on the PlayStation 3 on October 2, 2013. It is an HD remake of the 2012 PlayStation Portable spinoff series THE iDOLM@STER SHINY FESTA. The thirteen 765 Production idols all return as playable characters from the original PSP title while this game merges three different versions of the game together to make one game, resulting in all of them being featured.
Differences from SHINY FESTA
General
- The three versions of the original SHINY FESTA, titled Honey Sound, Groovy Tune, and Funky Note, have been merged into a single title. To accommodate this change, all 13 idols from 765PRO ALLSTARS are now available, not just 4 or 5 of them unlike each version of SHINY FESTA.
- The game has a higher resolution, being displayed in up to a native 1080p as opposed to the 480 × 272 resolution of the PSP version.
- A new video style, Gravure Style, is introduced. It is available for some songs.
Gameplay
Modes
The game consists of two main modes: STAGE and SHINY@TV.
- STAGE
STAGE can be considered a free mode to play songs. While the player only has access to Debut and Regular difficulties in the beginning of the game, by beating the songs in the preceding difficulty the Pro and Master difficulties for songs can be unlocked.
The gameplay consists of lines of notes merging to a center point. When the note reaches the center point, the player must press either a button on the left side of the game controller (L trigger or D-Pad) and/or on the right side of the controller (R trigger or shape buttons). There are also holds and special notes which will change the background video.
Like SHINY FESTA, this game utilizes prerecorded videos in the PS3/360 CG style as well as the Anime style. Each song has two out of five types of videos available: "Live Style", "Anime Style", "Drama Style", "Band Style" and "Gravure Style", the latter of which features the idols posing to the music, and one is introduced per DLC pack. After beating a song, the player can freely view these as they please.
- SHINY@TV
SHINY@TV is a challenge mode where players have to help the 765 Production idols become television hosts. This part of gameplay is only available upon downloading the DLC packs. Each idol has her own program with four challenges:
- High Score Challenge: Players have to beat a predetermined high score.
- Customize Challenge: Players must press buttons when certain sounds reach the center.
- Color Challenge: All types of notes share the same color, but gameplay is the same.
- GUEST Challenge: Much like Star of Festa mode from SHINY FESTA. This is a mode where you compete with idols from 765THEATER ALLSTARS.
Each idol show is comprised of "seasons", with each being 7 challenges long and categorized by difficulty level (e.g. "SEASON 1" = DEBUT difficulty, "SEASON 2" = REGULAR, "SEASON 3" = PRO, "SEASON 4" = MASTER). In addition, a challenge can even have other 765PRO idols guest star in certain episodes. If a player completes the challenge successfully, another challenge is unlocked. After completing certain requirements, an "EX" challenge will appear. This challenge will allow players to view a special video from their idol if completed successfully.
Songs
Unlike SHINY FESTA, there is only one "default" song. We Have A Dream is available to download for free and features all of the 765PRO idols. 12 DLC packs featuring past PV's and an idol's TV show (which is unlocked upon beating story mode) can be bought for 1500 yen each.
While each pack has an idol for its theme, they also include other songs from other idols. 2 initial DLC packs were available to download at the release of this game, while the rest were added later on. In addition to this, the song arcadia is available to be downloaded for free upon buying the first six DLC packs. Sora is also free to download upon purchasing the last six DLC packs.
