Takao Kuroi (Japanese: 黒井崇男 Kuroi Takao) is the president of 961 Production. In the THE iDOLM@STER SP games, he is always only seen as a silhouette, just like his 765 Production counterpart.

Character Description

Kuroi is considered to be the antagonist in THE iDOLM@STER franchise. Having a large ego, he is a dishonest and hateful man when it comes to 765 Production. Feeling deep hatred towards Takagi for still unstated reasons, he does almost anything in his power to bring down the rival production agency, even when it means risking his own reputation. Kuroi persuades people with money to get on his side, and even lies to the other party and spreads rumors. However, Kuroi is also a very successful and wealthy man, which is the reason why his production agency is more well-known than 765 Production.

This article contains spoilers from THE iDOLM@STER Stella Stage

During the story, the Producer is able to secretly produce Shika, and she has a mini-route. It is later revealed that she is his only daughter, which explains why he gives much more leeway and freedom and treats her better than past rivals. Incidentally, the whereabouts and identity of Shika's mother are unknown.

Trivia and Fan Culture

Trivia

  • In the drama CDs, he is surprisingly honest to his workers (except for Hibiki, Takane, Miki, Touma, Hokuto, and Shouta).
  • He was also attempted to steal Yayoi Takatsuki from 765 Production, offering her money and food for her family, though she refused due to an unstated obvious reason.
  • While Kuroi is a very hateful and dishonest character, in the THE iDOLM@STER SP DLC Catalog 8 idol-drama, it is shown that deep down Kuroi has a good side when he takes a "family-like" photo of Azusa Miura, Iori Minase and Producer, and gives it to them to keep as a memorial/gift.
  • He, Takagi, and 876 Production's Ishikawa used to be co-workers under one agency and the two males produced Kotori Otonashi's mother together. It was unknown exactly what happened to make Kuroi despise Takagi so much, until it was revealed in the Asayake wa Koganeiro THE iDOLM@STER manga that the reason is because of Kotomi's disappearance. The anime also suggests that Kotori Otonashi eventually became an idol under their tutelage.
  • In Asayake wa Koganeiro manga, he was also used to be produce his own unit, Black Needle, which was also the same unit that appears in Kotori's part-time job as a merchandise seller.
    • Just like Junjirou Takagi, he was also used to wear glasses in the past. Currently, he was shown no longer wearing one.
  • He shares the same birthday with Aya.
