Character Description

Umi is a voluptuous teenager hailing from Yamaguchi. As her name suggests, she was born and raised by the sea, and greatly enjoys windsurfing, her being at the beach to do so being how she ended up being scouted. She's easygoing but still very caring and considerate of those around her. The eldest sister of her family, Umi's an all-rounder when it comes to chores around the house, but especially good at sewing, frequently fixing up the Producer's buttons or fixing things up for other idols in the production. While generally being a more feminine idol, she has a tomboyish side to her due to the fact she has a younger brother. She treasures her brother dearly, as she's stated she often focuses on his birthday more than her own at times, and even worrying about if he's doing his homework when she's miles away. While she's often viewed as an older sister figure by other idols (especially by Tomo Fujii and Setsuna Imura, she often worries about being viewed as "older".

Umi's seen often considering her more tomboyish personality "crass", and seems to not have the most self-confidence in her beauty, saying a role of a head-turning woman is completely impossible for her to play in a commu. Despite this, she still tries very hard to fulfill the role, the Producer praising her for attitude of always trying to challenge herself despite viewing it as impossible. It seems on occasion she gets homesick, as Yamaguchi is extremely far from Tokyo, but she still has the strength to continue her path as an idol with her family far away.

Umi's talent for sewing comes from the fact she's a junior college student studying fashion design. She mentions being interested in costuming and is deeply dedicated to the work, still studying even as she continues to be an idol. On occasion, she has even helped in the production of costumes for lives and dreams of holding a performance where she designed the outfits. She seems to enjoy fashion that shows off her body rather than more cutesy types of clothes, which she thinks is more embarrassing to wear than showing skin.

In the tie in Cinderella Girls Theater skits, Umi is a nice young woman whose skill for sewing is often highlighted. This skill comes in handy when she needs to help Koharu Koga get ready to play Twister with the Producer. She taught Tomo Fujii how to sew, allowing her to create a stuffed animal. Umi seems to like frilly costumes and baumkuchen. She is a friend of Tomo, almost acting like a mother to her. She is also one of the victims of Yuki Himekawa’s antics and is partnered with Manami Kiba at a bead scattering event.

Trivia

She is part of a trio called Heart Warmer with Tomo Fujii and Setsuna Imura. Heart Warmer as a unit is generally considered to have a family-type dynamic, wherein Umi is viewed as the mother.
She's okay with being called "aniki", but calling her "anigo" is a no-go.
She's good at splitting food between people equally.
Due to both of them having a deep respect for the sea, she's often associated with Shiori Sena. This fact eventually came full circle when the two of them shared the release date of their first SSRs on July 19th, 2019.
She shares the same birthday with Kaoru Ryuzaki.
