Self-Introduction

"I'm Wakaba Kusakabe. I'm often mistaken as a junior high school student... But I'm already 20 years old? I want to be an idol and have everyone treat me as one. I'll do my be-est~."

Character Description

Wakaba is a young woman who is always mistaken for a middle school student due to her youthful appearance. She's a legal adult, but has the physical appearance of a young teenager which is made to look even younger when she wears pigtails. She doesn't let it get her down too much, however, since she is generally an easygoing and calm person.

She was originally scouted by the Producer after getting lost in the city. He, as many others do, mistakes her as a child. She’s grown to become used to this, despite the fact it can be upsetting for her at times, as she often felt like people were making fun of her by calling her cute and perceiving her as childish. She often still gets upset when people treat her like a kid as she feels it's demeaning. She faces a personal struggle with this, because Wakaba actually very much enjoys wearing cute clothes and likes cute things in general, but she worries enjoying these things make her seem like even more of a child. While becoming an idol has helped, somewhat, as she does genuinely believe now the compliments about her being cute are genuine, she admits she likely won’t ever get over her complex regarding her height and looks.

Children seem to be naturally attached to her; in her idol work she's close to most if not all of the child idols in the production, and it's been stated and shown in comics she has a large fanbase consisting of children. While she hates being treated like a child, Wakaba is not above using her babyface to her benefit, often getting annoying door-to-door salesmen to leave her alone by saying her mom isn't home.

In the tie-in Cinderella Girls Theater skits, Wakaba is always misunderstood to be a younger age than she is. Often times it leads to misunderstandings which require her to explain her age, such as when she's driving a car, which makes Kate believe minors could drive in Japan. Because of her looks, she was invited to join the “Little Marching Band Girls” unit as an adult member. She took the role of monitor eagerly after the younger girls continued to call her “big sister” and reliable. Wakaba has her driver’s license and seems to like looking at cars. She doesn’t like black coffee.

  • Wakaba's name literally translates to "young leaf", hence her appearance.
  • She is friends with Miyo Harada, due to their shared car-related hobby.
  • She has a relatively childish palate, as she doesn't like bitter things (black coffee) or spicy things.
  • Wakaba loves animals, as shown in her SSR1 and expresses an excitement whenever her jobs include working with them.
  • She can make cocktails, but she has a low alcohol tolerance.
  • She also likes hanging out with other idols at the same age as her, including but not limited to Yoko Saito, Misato Manaka, and Chiaki Kurokawa.
